WWDC24 Apple – New features for Notifications, Mail & RCS

Monday June 10 saw the start of Apple’s WWDC (WorldWide Developers Conference) for the year 2024, and the Apple Keynote announcing the new products from the famous apple brand.

We’re not going to list all the new features here, as there are plenty of sites that list them very well.

We just wanted to introduce you to the new features that could have something to do with notifications and sending messages (email and other channels).

In short, everything that comes close to Sweego, and there were some rather interesting announcements.

Apple Intelligence

We’ve said we don’t want to list all the new features apart from those related to notifications, but this one is necessary to understand the following ones.

Perhaps the most important announcement overall concerns the emergence of Artificial Intelligence with the appearance of Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system that combines the power of generative models with the personal context of users – at the heart of the iPhone, iPad and Mac.

MacOS, iOS, iPadOS Notifications

Apple Intelligence will have an impact on notifications, as it will enable notifications to be prioritized.

Prioritized notifications will appear at the top of the stack, so you’ll know at a glance which notifications are important. In addition, notifications will be summarized, making them easier to browse.

iPhone notifications on your Mac

Now you can also get iPhone notifications on your Mac

With their new iPhone Mirroring feature, which lets you use your iPhone directly on your Mac, you’ll be able to interact with these notifications.

Schedule an iMessage sending

It will be possible to schedule messages for iMessages

RCS Protocol Support

Apple finally supports RCS (Rich Communication Services)

RCS is a rich messaging protocol defined by the GSMA consortium. One of its members was Google. RCS can be seen as an evolution of SMS with advanced functionalities.

Unlike SMS, which uses GSM networks, RCS uses 3/4/5G or Wi-Fi.

For example, RCS enables group conversations, carousels, calendar access, buttons and much more.

I don’t know to what extent this will be supported, but you can, for example, book a plane ticket without leaving your application.

Historically supported by Android’s Messages application, this is now possible in Apple.

News of Mail software

Another big news that will have a big impact on the email world is the introduction of automatic email categorization.

Categorization will organize messages and help you stay up-to-date on all your accounts. The “Primary” category includes the most important e-mails, such as those from known people and urgent messages. The rest of the e-mails will be organized into new categories, such as “Transactions” for receipts and order confirmations, “Promotions” for marketing and sales messages, and “Updates” for newsletters and everything else.

It will be possible to display email extracts such as receipts, marketing emails and newsletters, grouped by sender.

Apple Intelligence, again, will place Mail priority emails in urgent messages at the top of your inbox, such as an invitation with today’s deadline or a check-in reminder for your afternoon flight.

So much for the announcements we thought would be of interest to players aware of multi-channel notifications. What do you think of these new features?
